The Giardino dell'Iris (Iris garden) in Florence was born in 1954 from the idea of hosting an annual international competition to reward the best varieties of Iris. The reason for the choice of the place was the historical link of the city with this flower. The coat of arms of Florence carries indeed a red Iris in the white field and not a lily as many believe. Enriched over the years thanks to donations from breeders from all over the world, the Iris Garden now hosts hundreds of varieties of Iris barbata but also Japanese and Louisiana Iris.

Our guided tour includes a walk in the garden that covers an area of 2.5 hectares. To enrich this green itinerary in Florence, we continue with a visit to the rose garden located a few steps from the Iris garden.
