The Palio di Siena, the most famous horse race in the world, is an ancient tradition lived by all Sienese people with great sympathy. Actors of this event, which takes place twice a year, are in fact the 17 contrade (districts) in which Siena is divided.

In this tour, we will show you the historic sites of the race, the Piazza del Campo, with its beautiful buildings all around, and then take you through the old town to the headquarters of a Contrada. Even their names are fascinating: there are, among others, the noble Contrada of the eagle, the imperial counter of the giraffe, but also the contrada of the snail or the wolf.

Your guide will tell you everything about the race, the numerous preparations, the tension just before the race, but also the daily life in a Contrada. The highlight of this tour is the visit of a Contrade Museum, anecdotes and curiosities are not missing, and of course we show you the costumes of the historical parades and the Drappelloni, the silk flags that symbolize the victories of the Palio. The tour ends at the Cathedral (outside visit), where the Mess of Victory in the Palio is celebrated.
