Siena, the jewel of Italian Gothic, also known for the Palio, owes its splendor to its advantageous position along the Via Francigena. Diligent traders and ingenious bankers created here one of the most important commercial and financial centers of medieval Europe. But Siena is also a city with a strong religious feeling, the town in which Caterina da Siena was born. The cultural and academic life is as well represented by prestigious universities and by the Chigiana Music Academy.

Our guided tour of this town that has well maintained its medieval look begins with the church of San Domenico where there are the venerated relics of Santa Caterina, patron saint of Italy and Europe. Then you will reach the splendid Palazzo dei Paschi di Siena, the oldest banking institution in Europe. Afterwards you will visit the Piazza del Campo, the undisputed center of city life, where our guide will explain the rules - and the tricks - of the famous horse race, the Palio di Siena. Passing the Palazzo Chigi-Saracini, home to a musical academy of international renown, our walk ends at the splendid Duomo.
