In the thirteenth century Montemerano, situated on a hill and surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, was a castle of the Aldobrandeschi family. Rebuilt in the fifteenth century by Siena, it is today a picturesque medieval village with characteristic stone houses, towers and the old fortress.

Our tour takes you through the historical center where wisterias and other climbing plants grow at every corner. During our walk through the narrow streets of Montemerano you discover romantic squares and courtyards and enjoy the view of one of the most beautiful landscapes of southern Tuscany. From the central Piazza del Castello we finally get to the St. George Church where we show you frescoes from the XV century, a magnificent polyptych of the painter Sano di Pietro and the famous painting called Madonna della Gattaiola.

Average duration: 1.5 hours
