Chiusi - classic tour

  • walking tour

  • partially accessible

  • panoramic

  • Average duration 2.0

Chiusi dates back to the Etruscan Clevsin, one of the most powerful among the Etruscan 12-city confederation. The town soars on a 398 m (1,306 ft) high tufa hill, which offers magnificent views over the lowlands which are a treasure trove of tombs for the Etruscan civilization.

Our city tour in Chiusi begins with the Romanesque Cathedral of San Secondiano, one of the oldest in Tuscany. On the main street we then arrive to a lookout point from where the view extends to Cetona and Città della Pieve. The tour continues with a visit to the so called “labyrinth of Porsenna” a system of underground tunnels leading to a cistern from the Roman period.

To this tour could be added the visit of the catacomb of Santa Mustiola; a bit out of town, at the nearby Chiusi Lake the catacomb is a testimony for the importance of Chiusi in Roman times
