Barga - classic tour

  • walking tour

  • panoramic

  • Average duration 1.5

Hilly Barga lies 35 kilometers north of Lucca in the valley of the Serchio, a particularly striking and beautiful part of Tuscany. Beyond its beauty, Barga is known for its local specialities as the bazzone (ham), the tasty potato bread or the famous castagnaccio, a chestnut cake.

From the town gate called Porta Reale we start our walk through the narrow streets and small squares of the historic center of Barga, which leads us first to the Conservatory S. Elisabetta and then to the cathedral built in travertine. Inside, a wonderful pulpit awaits us, made by a master from the circle of Guido Bigarelli. After visiting the cathedral, we continue to Palazzo Pretorio and the Loggia del Podestà, where the old official units of the municipality have been preserved. From there we reach Piazza Angelio, the stage of the Barga Jazz Festival and the nearby Teatro dell'Accademia dei Differenti. Our walking tour in Barga ends in Piazza del Comune with the Loggia del Mercato and the Palazzo dei Pancrazi, the present town hall.

Average duration: 1.5 hours

Price: 170.00 € up to 25 people + 2,00 € for any further person in the group

Note
The Barga tour could be combined with a visit of Colognora, home of a unique chestnut museum.
