The city of Volterra, located at 531 meters s.l.m., was one of the most important city-states of Etruscan civilization. Also known for its white alabaster, still used today in many workshops, Volterra offers one of the most intact medieval villages of Tuscany, characterized by numerous tower houses, by splendid palaces and last but not least by the Duomo that houses a surprising number of first rate art ranging from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.

Our guided tour starts at the medieval walls from where we look down on a pristine, rural landscape that extends to the sea. Then crossing the Porta all'Arco, built 2350 years ago and a true symbol of the city, we find ourselves inside a perfectly preserved medieval town. Through evocative small streets and beautiful panoramic points, the tour will take us to the Cathedral with the famous wooden Deposition and works by Benozzo Gozzoli and Fra 'Bartolomeo, and to the adjacent octagonal Baptistery, the beautiful Piazza dei Priori, the Roman theater with remains of a thermal building.
