San Quirico d'Orcia - classic tour

  • walking tour

  • accessible

  • Average duration 1.5

San Quirico d'Orcia lies on the Via Francigena, the pilgrim route running from Canterbury to Rome. Still today the small town, which overlooks the Orcia and Asso valleys, reveals many traces of the history and art of the Middle Ages.

On our guided walking tour in San Quirico d'Orcia we focuss on the Romanesque hall church of San Quirico. Its west portal, adorned with fascinating religious symbols and the south portal, possibly created by the workshop of Giovanni Pisano, would already justify a trip to this part of southern Tuscany. After the visit of the church we go to the Piazza della Liberta dominated by the Church of San Francesco. At the end of our tour we then visit the Horti Leonini, a good example of the garden art of the Renaissance.

The tour of San Quirico d'Orcia can be combined with a tour of the ancient thermal resort of Bagno Vignoni or alternatively with a tour of Pienza.
As a full-day itinerary, we propose an additional tour to the Abbey of Sant'Antimo.
