walking tour

Average duration 1.5
Known by the most for its majestic medieval towers, in reality, San Gimignano holds a surprising wealth of works of art. In the Middle Ages, thanks to its strategic position on the via francigena, the city was an important commercial crossroads. Nowadays the town, which has a few thousand inhabitants, is a center of agricultural production of fine products such as saffron and Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG.
Crossing the second wall we begin our journey leads us from Piazza della Cisterna to the Collegiata, an imposing building above the staircase and embellished with frescoes by Ghirlandaio, Benozzo Gozzoli and Taddeo di Bartolo. Passing through the Fortress of Montestaffoli, from where you can enjoy a splendid view of the surrounding landscape, we end our walk in the church of Sant'Agostino which houses beautiful works by Benozzo Gozzoli.
