Pistoia - classic tour

  • walking tour

Although Pistoia is a very charming and well-preserved medieval town with great art, excellent restaurants and quality shops it is probably one of the least visited places in Tuscany. This unjustified record offers you the chance to visit a typical Tuscan town undisturbed by too many other fellow travellers.

Our guided tour starts at Piazza San Francesco. On a leisurely walk through Pistoia's historic town center, we first visit the romanesque church S. Andrea which houses one of the town's greatest artworks, a pulpit by Giovanni Pisano. Passing the ospedale del Ceppo, famous for Giovanni della Robbia's startlingly colourful frieze we reach the Piazza del Duomo with its cathedral, baptistery and intact medieval palazzi. Then we head for the nearby Piazza della Sala where you will get in touch with a typical italian food market. Our guided walking tour in Pistoia finishes at San Giovanni Fuoricivitas which preserves an outstanding pulpit by Fra' Guglielmo da Pisa and and a visitation by Luca della Robbia.
