Founded in 1255 by Guiscardo Pietrasanta at the foot of a former fortress of the langobards, todays Pietrasanta is known for the numerous works of modern art exposed in the historical center. Thanks to the generosity of artists of international reputation like Igor Mitoraj, Marcello Tommasi, Fernando Botero, Ivan Theimer and others, Pietrasanta has become a sort of open air museum.

Our guided walking tour starts at Porta Pisana from where we reach the cathedral entitled to Saint Martin. A few steps from here we find the centaur, a magnificent bronze statue of Igor Mitoraj. In Via Mazzini we then visit the church of the Misericordia which houses two splendid frescoes of Fernando Botero. Passing the house of Father Eugenio Barsanti, together with Felice Matteucci known as the inventor of the internal combustion engine, we reach finally reach the piazza Matteotti with its works of Pietro Cascella and Fernando Botero.
