Certaldo, situated 201 feet high above the valley of the Elsa, was originally a castle of the Counts Alberti of Prato. In the thirteenth century it came under the control of emerging Florence. Today, Certaldo is known for the poet Giovanni Boccaccio, author of the Decameron, who died here in 1375.

Our classic walking tour in Certaldo is dedicated to the towns's three main attractions: the Palazzo Pretorio, the Church of Saints Jacopo and Filippo, the tomb of Boccaccio and the Boccaccio-house, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view over the Elsa Valley.
