PISAN MOUNTAINS - GUIDED HIKING TOURS

The following itineraries are only a part of what we can offer to friends of hiking and naturalistic excursions. We take great pride in assisting groups and individual travelers who are interested in the beauty of the Tuscan landscape and its flora and fauna. All tours were designed by our environmental excursion experts and are always led by our own specialist guides. Designed as single modules, every half- or full day tour can be easily combined with other itineraries. Tailor-made tours on request. We recommend good hiking shoes.

Pisan mountains :
This part of Tuscany offers the possibility to combine a hiking tour with a visit to protected areas and to explore the remains of sunken cultures. Our excursions into this region differ from the common trails you may find on hiking maps. We will introduce you to historic battlefields, medieval fortresses and the documents of century old farming activities.

TWO FOUNTAINS TRAIL
We start on a narrow, paved road amidst old olive groves. Soon, this road turns into to a two-track, which leads into extended pine woods. We proceed to a small church and a fountain with fabulous water. Through beautiful vegetation, we walk to a second fountain where a narrow trail among ferns leads us down to the village center.

This half-day excursion can be combined with a guided visit to an olive oil mill or by a guided walking tour in Pisa.

PISAN MOUNTAINS CREST
This easy hiking trip has almost no difference in altitude as you follow the crest of the Pisan mountains up to the mount Verrucca. The trail winds through chestnut woods, amidst yews, locust and gorse and offers you amazing views of the Mediterranean sea and quaint villages scattered here and there. After a rest on a particularly beautiful vantage point, the trail leads down to the old Caprona tower, terminal point of this hiking tour.

This half-day excursion can be combined with a guided visit to a terracotta kiln or by a guided walking tour in Pisa.

MOUNT VERRUCA
A small settlement of typical Tuscan stone houses at the foothills of the Pisan Mountains invites us to explore this region on a pleasant hiking trip. Amidst century old olive trees, this hiking trail leads to the Mount Verrucca. The characteristic scent of the Mediterranean macchia with myrtle, broom, and strawberry tree awaits you. Reaching the top you will enjoy a stunning view of Pisa and the Mediterranean sea. On clear days you might even see some islands of the Tuscan archipelago.
