TUSCAN ARCHIPELAGO - GUIDED HIKING TOURS

The following itineraries are only a part of what we can offer to friends of hiking and naturalistic excursions. We take great pride in assisting groups and individual travelers who are interested in the beauty of the Tuscan landscape and its flora and fauna. All tours were designed by our environmental excursion experts and are always led by our own specialist guides. Designed as single modules, every half- or full day tour can be easily combined with other itineraries. Tailor-made tours on request. We recommend good hiking shoes.

Tuscan archipelago:
The Tuscan archipelago is the largest maritime national park of Europe. The islands, which are best suited for hiking (Elba, Pianosa, Giglio, Giannutri, Capraia), have a fascinating social history and a rich flora and fauna. Every single island differs from the others with its peculiar type of Mediterranean vegetation and its special geological formation.

Our hiking tour in the western part of Elba starts in one of the oldest mountain villages of the island, situated 900 feet above sea level. From this picturesque spot we walk on a pilgrims' track to the church Madonna del Monte. During his exile on Elba, Napoleon Bonaparte met his mistress here. After visiting the church, we reach a plateau characterized by bizarre rocks. In this perfectly preserved part of the island, we walk through the Mediterranean 'macchia' enjoying its intense colors and delicate scents.

Capraia Capraia
Capraia is the only volcanic island of the Tuscan Archipelago. What remains of this former volcano can bee seen at the amazing 'zenobito' bay. Hiking allows you to explore a large part of the island with its incredible steep coast lines. You'll enjoy stunning views of the sea with nearby Corsica and the other islands of the archipelago scattered here and there. During spring migration, this excursion offers excellent opportunities for bird watching.
Difference in altitude: 400 meter (1312 feet)
Difficulty: medium

Pianosa Pianosa
Arriving at Pianosa you'll feel like you just entered a sunken world: There is a ghost town, a closed penal colony, and the land has been fallow for many years. Gradually, you experience the special atmosphere of an island which has been populated since ancient times. During our hiking tour, we visit the remains of roman settlements, catacombs, and the former state prison. However, primarily, we get in touch with Pianosa's coastline - intact nature of magical beauty.

A swim at the marvelous Giovanna bay should not be missed.
