SIENA, CRETE - GUIDED HIKING TOURS

Crete Senesi:

The Crete is a vast area in the southeast of Siena. One of its main characteristics are ther impressive, tree-and shrub-free Badlands. Part of this area is the so-called Accona Desert, where in 1319 the monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore was built. The monastery houses a famous fresco cycle with scenes from the life of Saint Benedict painted by Luca Signorelli and Sodoma.
